We look before and after
And pine for what is not
Thus sang Shelly, in his poem Skylark.
And all of us common folks are forced to sing the same, everytime that we deal with the so called service organisations - the banks, the airlines, the telecoms - and routinely experience their apathy, arrogance and downright hostility.
After all what does a common citizen do when she gets shortchanged by a service provider ? She does not have time to fight it out , or take the battle to court ! She has a life to carry on with ! So she shrugs and moves on, taking it in her stride, only to receive the same treatment soon.
So we pine for what is not. And they gloat.
They gloat in their shining offices, cushioned by their fat pay packets. For they are convinced that their mega ad budgets and PR stuntmen will protect their businesses from the fickle whims of the hoi polloi like you and me. The customer does not count. She is just lamb meant for slaughter.
Otherwise, why, I wonder, after having paid a hefty sum in air fare, do I have to swelter in the aircraft ? Swelter, because while it waits for take off, the air conditioning has been switched off ? And then why does the flight attendant give us a lame excuse ? "The aircraft cannot take off with the air conditioning on.", he says. Right, thank you ! You must consider we passengers to be brain dead morons with the intelligence of earthworms.
Or why is that I had to walk my post-surgery, semi-invalid, eighty five year old father all the way to the aircraft ? Was it because, as the guy in the check-in counter rudely informed me, if I wanted a wheel chair, I should have asked well in advance ? Of course. My fault ! Beg your pardon, your M-A-J-E-S-T-Y.
We pine for what is not.
Well, maybe not.
For starting from the next post, I plan to share with you all the poor experiences that I face. So that you folk know the truth behind the sterile smiles and the glossy advertising of the organisations who are chasing you right now for your business.
We shall not pine no more. Be with me, my friends.

Hi,
i went through your blog and i completely agree with you and am able to relate to it. These banks have taken us for granted.
Even i experienced this kind of apathy from ICICI bank. I was issued an Credit card without even me applying for one !!! And for no fault of mine i have to run behind them for its cancellation else pay unnecessary annual service charges.
Its high time we raise our voice against them else all of us will be harassed by these banks.
I stand by you.
Goodluck.
Absolutely. They have taken customers for granted. Do not spare them. Take them down to the wire.
This can not be acceptable at any cost we the common people had respect on banks now a day these banks are loosing respect for ill treating the customer
Before I become a customer to the bank I will be treated as king once I become customer if ask for service I become enemy for them.I think this is the right time pull them for court
I stand by you
Well, I am posting here exactly what I posted on Mouthshut for this review.
Well, did u manage to record this telephonic conversation ? Next time, please do it.
First and foremost, WITHDRAW all money from this account and transfer it to any other bank account. Also, DO CLOSE your account.
Then, if you receive any further calls, just tell him blatently that you are not going to pay anything for which you are not responsible. Also, record the telephonic conversation. Get this news published in all newspapers, and if possible, get it flashed on TV channels too.
Also, without any delay, approach the Banking Ombudsman of your city/state with all relevant proof/documents and lodge a complaint with them. Also, lodge a complaint with the consumer court. And do lodge an FIR at the local police station. Do go to police station with 4-5 persons, and do not budge till they have registered the FIR, and given you a copy of the same. And, most importantly do all of this SIMULTANEOUSLY. Get after this bank just like a cat gets after a mouse.
I bet that the bank will call you asking for apology, and will literally beg pardon. BUT, DO NOT bend unless and until you have claimed handsome compensation for unauthorised payements as well as compensation for mental harrasment.
This bank definitely needs a lesson.
Finally, last but not the least, a 2 paisa advice from me. NEVER ever keep heavy balance in these ’’English speaking’’ banks. Always trust the good old SBI and Canara Bank and other nationalised banks to keep heavy balances. They have poor customer service at most of the branches, but be assured that your money will never be debited in any unauthorised way.
